  My grandmother died when I was 5 years old and I have some vivid recollections of her as she was the only living grandparent that I had. She was a stern old lady, hard faced with still dark hair and a bun on top of her head. If I had to describe her I always see her as an elderly German peasant lady. As children we were always sent outside to play and I recall her having some very tasty little tomatoes in her garden. I once asked an aunt why she was so stern with my brother and I and was told that by that stage she over kids!
