Notes - Alfred and Alexander were twins. Alfred left home when he was 15 years old and went horse breaking.
The 16 October 1888 edition of the Donald Express reported that an Alfred Free of the Parish of Corack had an application refused for the lease of a 155-acre block of land there.
Dunnolly hospital records show that an Alfred Free, single and registered as a horsebreaker from the town of Emu, was admitted to the Dunolly Hospital on 11 Feb 1890 and discharged on 1 March the same year.

Alfred Free, alias John Hull, charged on warrant from Bendigo, Victoria, with forging and uttering a cheque for £4 9s, purporting to be signed by William Free, and uttering same to Mrs Carter of Yorong, Victoria, has been arrested by Constable Foss, Hatfield Police. Remanded to Bendigo to be dealt with.

ALFRED FREE, alias John Hill, on warrant for horse stealing.- Offender was recently at Stoetry and Hill, near Beaufort. From there he went to Linton horsebreaking, but suddenly disappeared on the 12th inst. When he left Linton he wore black boxer hat, black faded paget coat, and coloured moleskin trousers.-O.3956, 18th April, 1893.

CAPTURE OF AN ALLEGED HORSE-STEALER
At Yarraglen on the night of Saturday last a man named Alfred Free, alias John Hill, was arrested by Sub-Inspector Walsh and Mounted-trooper Arnold. Free has been wanted by the police for 18 months or more, but has kept shifting about from place to place and eluding their efforts to arrest him. He is said to be a smart and daring horseman and a good bushman. The most recent charge against him is that of stealing a horse from Maurice Sheean, of Eddington, in May last. Free has been remanded from Yarraglen to Dunolly, and was brought to Melbourne on Thursday in custody.

OWNER required by the Maryborough police, for a bay horse, with black points, near hind foot white, white mark behind near shoulder blade, branded L near shoulder. The animal was left by a convicted horse thief named Alfred Free, alias Hill, with Mr Barber, of Golden Valley Hotel, Bet Bet. O.7297 20th August, 1894.

He went to Western Australia around 1895 during the gold rush to Kalgoorlie. Emma was one of the first white babies on the goldfields. He and his family later went farming on the Peel Estate on the Mandurah Road.
