    • Arthur spent a lot of his life in the Army. He was a bugler in the Boer War. Then at only 17 years of age he fought in the 1914-18 war. (his father was also an army man, living in the barracks). In 1923 he came to Australia on the SS Osterley. He went to work in the Group Settlement Scheme at Augusta. Later transferred to the Peel Estate on Mandurah Road. It was while living there, that Kathleen and Charles met.

      The 1911 census shows that Arthur had an adopted daughter Mabel (born 1906-07) 2 years before Kathleen was born. I haven't been able to find Mabel under Annakin or Comstive as yet. She didn't go to Perth so she may have been married (at 16) or more likely died. Haven't found death date either.
