  We have only just stumbled on the father of Edward Patrick Finn, and at this stage we believe him to be John(Jack) Finn, we know he was in Watchem/Corack in 1894 -1898, before that he had a property in Avenel and after that he again went back to Avenel/Mangalore as we have Council records of his rates which we have only just found. We think he died in Maryborough Vic. and are checking through it now he was also married to Mary Ann Brown. I suppose this all came about as my father had a very close relationship through his mother Annie Victoria Gilchrilst with his Uncle Don Gilchrist and children as my father had to leave the family home in 1930 and live with this family on their farm in Leitchfield until a young man due to the depression. In fact I believe it was either the Frees or the Gilchrists who enlisted in the WW2 and my father wanted to join with them, however as his father was a WW1 Vet. and the fact my father was underage at the time he was refused to enter. Subsequently I believe his two cousins were lost when the ship they were travelling on was torpedoed off Greece (?) and they drowned. My father bought my mother to Melbourne when he was in the army in 1941 and they stayed in Melbourne and never went back to Watchem, he maintained a close association with his Uncle Don and Auntie Dolly who eventually moved back into Watchem. There sons, one of whom still owns the farm and others moved to Mildura and Merbein Sth (Don Gilchrist), he maintained a distant closeness with them that I experienced as a young boy when we visited them in about 1965, although at the time I did not understand the significance as I do now. He always spoke about his mother supposedly having some alleged inheritance something that both he and his brother Ray had a joke about. When Don Berry, from Bendigo contacted family members some 15 years ago regarding estates of the Gilchrist Family supposedly in England we were all bemused. In fact my cousin Ray from Shepparton and myself always wanted the research that he had undertaken to see the family line but we are still waiting!
