  John Gowers, born 15 July 1821 appears on my husband's family tree - followed by a question mark as the person who drew up the tree had no further information on him and he is written as 'died at a fairly early age'. If all this fits in, then he seemed to have survived a lot longer! The John I am talking about is one of 16 children born to John (born approx 1793 in Fressingfield Suffolk)and Matilda Gowers - married approx 1815. Of their 16 children, Henry born 7 October 1833 is my husband's great grandfather. Some years ago, when we lived in a place called Penicuik just outside Edinburgh, Scotland, we had two sets of vistors who arrived out of the blue after looking up our surname in the local phone book. (Around 1980) One set came from I think Melbourne, from memory he was or had been connected with the banking industry. A fortnight later another couple arrived who were from the Perth area and were on their honeymoon. After in depth conversations it turned out they were related to each other but neither knew the other set of relations were in Scotland. They looked at a photo of my father-in-law and said it was the spit immage of one of their relations. These people mentioned this huge waggon load of a family that had moved from Fressingfield to Lancashire - so at that time we thought we were connected someway but just didn't know what the connection was. I lost their addresses and it turns out that we now live in New Zealand and who knows one day we may get as far as Australia. I have further information if any of this helps.
