Notes - His father was also Tobias Joyce a farmer, Tobias jnr known to have two younger sisters Mary and Bridget. Tobias was a Police Officer and had to leave Ireland because of the ‘Troubles”.

He was born in 1851 at Ashmount, Culliaghmore, Leenane, Galway Ireland. His father was Theobald Tobias Joyce born 1816 at Mounterowan, West Leenane, Galway Ireland. Theobald known as Toby was the son of John {Big Jack) Sean Ban (The fair)as he was said to be 6 foot 4 inches and had very fair hair. NB Clarence Joseph Joyce his great-great-grandson was also 6 foot 4inches and had very fair hair.John Joyce was married to Mary Phillibin Theobald was married to Elizabeth Evan born 1820 at Clegggan Galway Ireland to Thomas Manning Evans and Margaret Toole.
Theobald and Elizabeth were married on March 8, 1840, at Clifden Roman Catholic Church Galway. So far 13 children have been identified Patrick Joyce 1843-1907 married Mary Joyce a cousin.Mary Joyce1845 -1907 married James Walsh and migrated to Western Australia on the Fitzroy with James and 8 of their children. She is buried at Fremantle Cemetery. Sarah Joyce 1846-1884 married Bernard "Barney" O'Sullivan. John Evans Joyce 1848-1903 married Margaret Aphra McGrath. Bridget Joyce 1849- 1922 married Thomas O'Sullivan. James Bernard Joyce 1853-1928 married Barbara Keely. Elizabeth Joyce 1856-1940 married her cousin John Joyce. Thomas Evans Joyce 1860- 1939 married Margaret Agnes Waldron. Margaret Joyce born 1861. Catherine " Emily" Joyce 1863-1926 married Micheal Coyne in Pennsylvania USA and died in Ohio USA. Anne Joyce was born in 1864.
Jane Joyce was born 1866. Tobias was left a Legacy in his father Theobald's Will of one Pound!
