Notes - John Okey Davis Park, Gosnells, Western Australia
John Okey Davis and his wife Frances arrived in the colony in October 1829 aboard the ship 'Lotus' and became among the first European settlers in Gosnells. The Davis property, called 'Chenies', occupied most of the present suburbs of Huntingdale, Gosnells and Southern River. Davis, with the help of his family, built a mud brick home and cultivated an area about the size of the present park. He planted wheat and vegetables, watering them from the river.
When John and Frances Davis died they were buried near their home and their gravesite still remains at the southern end of the park.

City of Gosnells Museum
Located on the beautiful banks of the Canning River, the museum collection is housed in the State Heritage listed Wilkinson Homestead on Homestead Road in Gosnells. The site has an interesting history that includes early European settlement, Aboriginal heritage, and the district's agricultural development.
The Museum property and adjacent park are part of the 1829 land grant to pioneer John Okey Davis.
GOSNELLS
Development of the district of Gosnells dates back to 1829 when the rich soils and abundant waters of the Canning River attracted early settlers. One of the early pioneers was John Okey Davis who arrived in WA with his wife and seven children on the ship "Lotus" in 1829. Davis' land was eventually sold to Charles Gosnell in 1862. Gosnells was a director of a famous London firm of John Gosnell and Co., perfumery manufacturers, and it was from this association that the name of the area originated.
