Notes - John was convicted of burglary in Dorset in 1848 and sentenced to 14 years transportation to Western Australia. He was the second convict in Western Australia. He worked in Perth, Fremantle, Champion Bay, and Lynton. He was given a ticket of leave on the 5 May 1851. He then lived in Greenough as a farmer & shoemaker.
"Located on the road to Port Gregory, the Lynton Hiring Station was established in 1853 to serve the Geraldine Lead Mine and pastoralists in the area. The depot served as an employment agency where "ticket of leave" holders could be hired by private enterprise."
