On 15th December, 1903: Atlantic Transport's cattle
carrier "Mississippi" was launched at New York Shipbuilding, Camden, New Jersey.
In 1906, she was be transferred to Red Star by IMM, renamed "Samland" and
converted to a cargo carrier. In 1911, she was given to White Star and renamed "Belgic"
(3), the only US-built ship ever to carry a White Star name.
The "Belgic (3)" This ship was built in 1903 ex- Mississippi, Atlantic Transport
Line, ex- Samland, 1911 transferred from Red Star Line, renamed Belgic, 1913
reverted to Red Star Samland. 9,748 Tons.
The "Belgic (3)" was in White Star service for only two years, from 1911 to
1913. She was a freighter/cattle carrier, built in 1903 as Atlantic Transport's
Mississippi. She became Red Star's Samland in 1906, Belgic in 1911 and Samland
again in 1913. She was scrapped in 1931.
